Hi. I'm Jane.
I live in Hamilton, Ontario with my husband, Dan, and my loveable girl cat, Pedro. I work out of my home studio, making art and jewelry from an ever changing mix of materials.
I've been fortunate to live in and travel through many parts of Canada. I was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Ottawa, Ontario. My experience of the diverse terrain and magnificence of Canada has always fed my curiousity and inspired my creativity.
After receiving my B.A. in History and English from Redeemer University and doing graduate studies in English at the University of Waterloo, I worked in public relations at a local steel company for 11 years. I had a a few roles there: writer, video producer, and internal communications specialist. These roles - and the wonderful people with whom I worked - broadened my creativity immensely. And I was always inspired by the extraordinary heat, colour, sights and sounds of steel production that I got to see as I shot video all over the plant.
Since November 2012, I have been a full-time artist. In my art, I use a variety of media and techniques, including metal work, printmaking, collage, assemblage, painting, and origami. My aesthetic is motivated by vibrant colour, evocative texture, and the surprises found in everyday things. I like to rescue love-lorn items from the ends of driveways or thrift stores and give them new life as something else. And I like to make garbage into something more fun and beautiful, and most importantly, hopefully not bound for the landfill.
